People online are divided over Kylie Jenner's makeup look, or lack thereof, on the cover of Vogue Australia's September issue.
On Sunday, after the magazine debuted its September cover online, shot by photographer Jackie Nickerson, the beauty mogul's longtime makeup artist, Ariel Tejada, appeared to imply that Kylie went bare-faced for Vogue Australia's photos.
"I would love to say makeup by me!" Tejada wrote in the caption of an Instagram post featuring Kylie's cover, which Vogue Australia originally shared on the social platform. "But its [sic] really moisturizer by Ariel."
As Revelist reported, some online took issue with Tejada's implication that Kylie only wore moisturizer on the magazine's cover — especially after a Twitter moment featuring the "makeup-free" look went viral.
On Twitter, many said they believe the Kylie Cosmetics founder was wearing "light" or "natural" makeup consisting of foundation, highlighter, mascara, and brow product.
She literally has her eyebrows done and is wearing mascara in or falsies plus highlighter and Foundation this is 100% not makup free..

Really? Where is the pic where she doesn't have makeup on? Or was it added in Photoshop? Because the woman in this photo clearly has make up on here eyebrows, eyes and lips. More natural looking but she HAS makeup on.

Others argued that Kylie's freckles, which the star has shown before in foundation-free selfies on Instagram, would be visible on the magazine's cover if Tejada had only applied moisturizer to her skin.
I’m sorry, but this is a lie. It’s a very natural makeup look, but it IS makeup. We’ve seen her without makeup; we know she has TONS of freckles when not wearing foundation. Also her brows are clearly filled in and/or dyed. Let’s not forget lip fillers and lash extensions help.

For reference, here's an Instagram photo in which Kylie appears to be wearing no foundation.
Some pointed out that the beauty mogul's mom, Kris Jenner, appeared to credit Tejada for doing Kylie's makeup in a post about the cover on both Twitter and Instagram.
Wow!! My beauty @kyliejenner on the September cover of @vogueaustralia!! So proud of you! #proudmama#vogue#vogueaustralia Photos by @jackie_nickerson, styling by @christinecentenera, hair by @jennykim__, makeup @makeupbyariel, interview by @kendalljenner❤️ pic.twitter.com/TEyiMRBU4P

Many also clarified that they were not trying to shame Kylie, whose fresh-faced look was praised by fans online. Rather, they said they spoke out because they believe claims that Kylie went makeup-free could perpetuate unrealistic beauty standards since readers do not know what she actually wore on her face, or whether her appearance on the cover was digitally altered.
By the way I’m not shaming her, I think it’s important for women to hold up other women and she looks gorg! But she is a huge influencer to a lot of young girls, so it’s dishonest AND irresponsible of Vogue to act like it’s normal for anyone to naturally look like this. pic.twitter.com/Gf3h2lIdAI

Please don’t say she is make-up free when she clearly isn’t. This puts pressure into young girls who aspire to look like this.

if you’re gonna go no makeup to influence young girls maybe you should actually follow through. Nude makeup=/= no makeup. Pretending that’s your natural look is harmful to their self-image
